Faces of Recovery : Believing in the future

Dyna Petit Frère, 27 years old and originally from Nippes, lost her home, her small family business and her way of life in a matter of seconds when the earthquake struck Haiti's Grand Sud on August 14, 2021. Despite this, she continues to believe in a better tomorrow.

Following the earthquake, I had to live in difficult conditions with my family in a site set up for displaced people. The earthquake was a big upheaval for me, but I was lucky enough to be offered a job by PAHO/WHO on a health project.

I am now involved in epidemiological screening work across Nippes department. I travel around with another colleague on motorcycles, and I help in the detection of possible cases of infectious diseases, and in particular of COVID-19. I take samples and send them on to the nearest laboratory.

In this way, I contribute directly to the protection of the most vulnerable populations in my community. This work also allows me to live a life with dignity and gives me hope for the future.”
